From planning to code: Jira and Bitbucket

Traceability is at the heart of the flow. When every Jira work item is linked to a branch, commit and pull request, developers manage code and tasks from one screen, and managers can see what stage a piece of work is in, right down to the code.

CI/CD: automation with Bitbucket Pipelines

We automated build, test and deployment steps with Bitbucket Pipelines. With environment-based deployments, you can trace the order in which each release reaches test, staging and production, and deployment information appears automatically on the related Jira issues.

Operations and continuous feedback

When production incidents are managed in Jira Service Management, incident and change records can be linked directly to the related deployments. Runbooks and post-incident reviews kept in Confluence help teams avoid repeating the same mistakes.

“When the tools come together, the real gain is that work, code and operations meet in the same traceable chain.”

Key takeaways

  • Single source: work, code and deployments are traced in one chain
  • Automation: repetitive steps run through pipelines and rules
  • Visibility: managers follow delivery end to end
  • Culture: collaboration between teams matters as much as the tools
